The Wood lamp skin analysis colors may show:
- Blue - healthy skin
- White Spots - thick layer of dead skin cells
- Light Purple - dehydration
- Dark Purple - sensitive, thin and dehydrated
- Brown Spots - pigmentation/sun damage
- Orange - Oily skin
- Light Yellow - acne, comedones
The UV Lamp may show the following:
- Increase in pigmentation to determine whether the condition is: Epidermal or Dermal
- Pigmented lesions have a clear border under Woods light because the light is absorbed by increased melanin
- Loss of pigmentation (eg, vitiligo) to identify affected areas in light-skinned people
- Hypopigmented skin has sharper borders under black light and fluoresces bright blue white while areas of reduced blood flow are unchangedÂ
